Killing It: The DJ Beef Edition

There were a lot of tragic drops this week: Zomby punched HudMo, DJ Clent beefed with Machinedrum, a trap DJ got hauled in for dealing heroin, and more.

There's enough gossip going around the world of electronic music that it probably deserves its own TMZ, Gawker, and Perez Hilton. We keep track of the drama, the beef, the LOLs, the dramatic build-ups, and the tragic drops so you don't have to. Now, let's see who killed it this week.

ZOMBY VERSUS HUDMO

Two well-known producer dudes got into a brawl at Benji B's Deviation party, and the Internet went nuts. Once again, we're left wondering why on God's green earth people still follow Zomby, and why they still tweet about every fight he picks. Someone please find Zomby a girlfriend or something, because we have BEEN HAD enough Zomby beefs for a lifetime. And from now on, can we all agree to stop feeding into this mundane, embarrassing bullshit?

DJ CLENT AND MACHINEDRUM ARE BEEFING, TOO

Oh boy, here we go. Not too long ago, Machinedrum released "Backseat Ho" via Ninatune, and footwork stalwart DJ Clent (who contributed to our MIXED BY series last week) called foul. He took to Twitter to accuse Machinedrum of ripping off one of his tracks. If it's true, that totally sucks and we feel Clent's pain, but it's never a good look to bitch on social media. So in addition to agreeing not to fan Zomby's flames, let's also make a pact to handle disputes in a more level-headed and mature way.

South By South West is usually a magical time when cheerful partygoers spend a week hopping from nightclub to bar to open field to see some of their favorite acts. The perfect way to ruin the entire thing is to drive drunk and careen through a very crowded one-way street. As you've probably heard, some psychopath did just that: in an attempt to flee from the police, he crashed through a barricade and plowed through a big group of people. Two people died, 23 were injured, and thousands more were completely freaked out. According to the New York Times, this beyond-reckless driver hit a moped, a cyclist, and a taxi, as well as a bunch of pedestrians. Then, he got out of the car and tried to run for it, but the police zapped him with a stun gun. Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with all the families affected and all those who were killed or injured in this horrifying tragedy.

SKRILLEX SUDDENLY DROPS A NEW ALBUM

ICYMI: It's called Recess. It includes a song called "All Is Fair in Love and Brostep." It features the Ragga Twins. That's all you really need to know.

TRAP ARTIST DRUG BUST IN IDAHO

Some DJ barn named Kai Wachi just got busted dealing the two deadly drugs heroin and Oxycodone. He hasn't been charged yet, but apparently he and 10 others—including some teenagers—have been peddling since 2012. Although DJs aren't obligated to view themselves as role models for their young fans—*cough* Zomby—wouldn't it be nice if they did? DJs have enough trouble standing up to unfair assertions that electronic music is just about drugs, so stop ruining it for the rest of us. Thanks.

NEW YORK'S NEWEST NIGHTCLUB HAS LANDED

There's a new nightclub in Brooklyn, so it's time for us to all moan and groan about gentrification a little bit more. House fiends and party promoters Jen Schiffer and John Perez, the minds behind Verboten, have finally opened their own nightclub. They're kicking it off this weekend with a party DJed by Crosstown Rebels.
