A Year of Lil Wayne: "Encore"

This is even better than the Linkin Park version.

Day 177: "Encore" – The Prefix , 2004

OK, here is Lil Wayne rapping really well, especially on the third verse. It begins:

I know I'm good my nigga Real beside me
Plus moms call me every day and tell me she proud of me
Slim and B say I'm looking more like they prodigy
No, they protegé
Prototype
Ay! that mean I pass everything that pass
I try to do the marriage thing but I can't pass up ass

And it keeps going from there. It astounds me to this day that there was a time when this version of Lil Wayne was not taken seriously as a rapper by northerners and purists. Just look at the way he plays with those three-syllable P-words! I mean, come on. Linkin Park's version of this song isn't that hot, and I know you've heard that one, versus this one that you probably haven't!

Correct that now, and enjoy these good raps from Hollygrove's finest. To quote Wayne, "I'm the prince of my city / dick long, swinging for the fence like Griffey."
