Sailor & I - "Tough Love (M A N I K Remix)" [THUMP Exclusive]

M A N I K takes this string-soaked ballad into nu-disco territory for summer.

Move over Miike Snow and meet Sailor & I, Sweden's next great prince of pop. The Stockholm-based producer Alexander Sjödin is a wizard of bedroom recording, building cinematic, high-gloss indie pop with a laptop and a DIY attitude. Sjödin tells Michigan-based music blog Otter Beats that within Stockholm's pop scene, "electronic music has taken the place of the old indie band," pointing out that the city's rockers have finally embraced "electronic dance music you can make quite easily on your laptop." Do you mean to suggest that guitars are irrelevant and that bleep-y machine music is taking over the world? Ladies and gentlemen, you heard it here first.

"Tough Love," one of the few tracks that Sailor & I has ever recorded in a studio with live string musicians and an engineer, "is in some ways a reaction to that, because we really wanted it to sound like there were real people playing."

We're excited to premiere a funky, upbeat remix of this string-soaked ballad by NYC's M A N I K, who takes it into nu-disco territory for all of your breezy, outdoor summer dance parties. The Tough Love EP is out July 21st on London's Black Butter records with remixes from Aril Brikha and Pablo Nouvelle as well.

Find Sailor & I on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud, and check out more releases from Black Butter Records. Purchase this and the rest of the EP on iTunes.
