The World's Buffest Drone Lifts, Bro

It's called the Megacoptor for a reason.

A team in Norway just broke the world record for most weight ever carried by a drone. Leave it to the decendants of Vikings to to make a flying robot that can lift a payload of 134 lb 7.6 oz—equivalent to a medium-sized human, or a very large goat—without breaking a sweat. Led by drone maker Henning Pedersen, the University of Oslo students who developed it have dubbed their behemoth creation, "Megacoptor." Its combination of 13 propellers powered by 48 separate motors gives the Megacoptor the lift needed to keep it's human-sized payload airborne for more than 30 seconds, securing the verbose Guinness World Record for "Heaviest payload lifted by a remote-controlled multicopter."

The technology Pederson and his Viking team used for the Megacoptor is similar to another world record holder, hoverboard designer Alexandru Duru's (relatively) long distance hoverboard. While Duru's invention was a passion project, the Megacoptor is a product of UiO: Experiences, a program that promotes STEM education in Norway. With the manned drone that made a big stink at CES approaching the market, these massive drones are bound to be clogging public spaces soon with their giant muscles, buzz cuts, and terrible pickup lines.
