Welcome to Notes from the Underground, THUMP's weekly premiere feature dedicated to shining a light on underground sonics from around the world. Every week, we'll start at the surface and dig deeper into the underground with each track. Brummie turned Berliner Subb-an has quickly earned a classy pedigree through releases on Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest, and his own One Records. His latest release, "Warp," finds him dropping techno tonalities over a house beat that surges for six minutes with frenetic energy, a hypnotic cadence, and oodles of class. It's a multi-faceted tune that could close a minimal set or open up a techno tear-out.

Austrian drum & bass outfit Fourward return with this driving heater on seminal UK bass label Shogun. The tune is dark and heavy, while the groove is locked in with deep synth stabs that ride atop the barrage of energy you'd expect from the four-tet. The two-track single is released both physically and digitally on February 9th. Here's the vinyl link.

Populous' Night Safari was one of our favorite albums of 2014. Aussie post-bass provocateur Ribongia took on the remix of the title track and peps up the tempo in bringing the track a little more into upfront territory. This one's a free download on SoundCloud so hop on that.

Hailing from Plainfield, New Jersey, TR!CK$ is one of the most exciting rising stars of the Jersey Club scene. Having his tracks consistently picked up by the likes of Cashmere Cat and Lido, TR!CK$' latest track, "All Alone" is the second off of his freshly dropped debut EP.

Tessier-Ashpool has quickly become one of our favorite labels thanks to a concise and fresh aesthetic that melds techno with bass music in a maelstrom that's at once minimalist and heavy. Label head Liar's remix of "Adapt" is a perfect example of what the label are all about, and if you're into this, take a dive into their catalogue. Cloaka's EP is out February 23 digitally.

Hailing from Japan, the experimental artist Madegg (also known as M/D/G) has supported fellow mind-benders like Arca, Anthony Naples, and Falty DL. His tunes exhibit an affinity for strange progressions and future-leaning nods at the meeting ground of house, techno, and bass music tones. As the lead cut to his upcoming self-titled 12" for vinyl-only label Raum, Madegg has unleashed the aptly-titled "?????." We'd tell you more, but we're still trying to figure it out.
