Listen to the Machine-Funk Futurism of Melbourne's Juxtpose

Techno, electro, and new-jack swing on this local release from the Heard and Felt label.

Juxtpose has the knowledge and the tech to make you move. He has a long history in music and a strong interest in leftfield dance and jazz styles. The Melbourne producer reached out to legendary local broadcaster and tastemaker Ennio Styles after hearing his chat with Detroit Techno icon Mad Mike from Underground Resistance on Stylin'. A friendship quickly formed, and so did plans for a release on Ennio's Heard and Felt label. Technometry is the result, and THUMP is pleased to provide a stream of the full EP. It's full of Detroit-inspired techno and modern club modes, with a couple of remixes from heavy hitters Opolopo and Christian Vance. Listen here, and read Juxtpose's description of the tracks below.

Technometry: This track is definitely a nod to Detroit. I wanted to use a bit more of a soulful type sample over the buzzy in-your-face-bass sound. All the percussion elements are classic drum machine sounds made in the box. It took me a while to be happy with the mix which revolved a lot around going back into the original demo to maintain the vibe, or at least Ennio telling me that I was cleaning it up too much!

Boneshaker: This was made with a feeling to try and recreate that kind of cool kids getting emotional at the club vibe I got from Caribou's track "Sun". Regardless of the end result that was the intention. Vocalist Justin Ossher improvised a take and sang "Boneshaker", by accident as he misread the working title which was "Bootyshaker", and it eventually stuck.

Technometry (Christian Vance Remix): Features Aussie techno and house big gun Christian Vance.

Technometry (Opolopo Remix / Opolopo Cassingle Edit): These are from Swedish electronic funk whizz OPOLOPO. The two versions from Opolopo plus the Christian Vance remix were very much Ennio's doing, attempting to re-imagine the title cut "Technometry" into very different stylistic approaches. It also keeps in line with the Heard and Felt theme of eclecticism.
