Polographia Climb New Heights With Their Soulful Single "Plastic Mountain"

THUMP Premiere of new Polographia single.

You can believe us when we say Sydney duo Polographia are an impressive music making team. They're versatile, moving across disco, funk, soul and beats. They're bold, remixing classics from Prince and playing with boundaries on their own recordings. They're busy, performing alongside artists such as Fishing, Teebs, and Jonti, including several Since I Left You Avalanches tribute shows. And they're back. Plastic Mountain is the new single, and it's another soulful excursion into uncharted terrain. The single is streaming here, and available for download via Polographia's Facebook page.

THUMP: As well as music makers, you're obviously big music fans. We're digging the recommendations you make on your Facebook - what does it take to really grab your attention as a music fan?
Polographia: We kinda post whatever we were listening to that day, just when a good song came on that hits you with that feeling (whatever that is). Or sometimes it was a new artist's song that we were really digging. But we both enjoy music from everywhere, whether it be some cool 60's psych or a fresh 2014 house track, it's all good!

You've also shown your journalistic skills, chatting with Jungle recently. Enjoyed the interview, and wondering if these kinds of conversations about art, process, and presentation are also topics you discuss amongst yourselves regularly?
Oh thanks, we were so nervous! Still can't believe we got to have a Skype chat to one of our favourite artists! It was a really insightful conversation & we did have a mutual understanding which was cool. I think the biggest thing we took from them is to find our own sound and that has been a continual journey for us but we're really getting there now.

What can you tell us about "Plastic Mountain", and what ideas it sprang from?
Sometimes our ideas come out of nowhere. Like with "Plastic Mountain", it was put together with a lot of random sounds & samples and the track title came to us one night when we were mixing the instrumentals. We knew we wanted our friend Kamaliza to sing on the track & we brought him into the studio without saying much but he knew exactly what to do.

You guys are involved with the Avalanches live show. Please tell us everything about this, including what it feels like to bring one of the best-ever albums to life.
WOW, just WOW. That was one of those 'once in a lifetime' experiences. Everyone involved & especially Jonti are all incredibly talented musicians, hilarious comedians & now great friends. But the biggest Thankyou goes to The Avalanches for making such an amazing album that we will always listen to again & again. It was a huge embarkment trying to find every little sample and sound let alone trying to seamlessly perform it, but now we know it can be done. We've really grown as musicians & performers and we've definitely been inspired to bring that high level back into our own music.
