Inside The World and Workspace of Melbourne Producer Dan White

A photographic guide to musical feng shui with Melbourne's Dan White.

For the second installment of 'Bedroom Producers' Bedrooms', we put Melbourne-based artist Rory McPike's haunt under the microscope. His newest project is Dan White, and has quickly earned a following with some captivating live shows. There's a multitude of releases ready to drop, and a full live set ahead at Strawberry Fields. In short, Dan White is one to watch. We visited him at home to, well, watch the young producer in his natural environment.

One corner of the room – too many records. Note the 'customised' turntable stands, hard to find foam and a sampler. There's not enough room to have them straight either, so that keeps it interesting.

The desk/studio. Post jam come down. Gear includes: 2 Samplers, FX and a xoxbox in shot with mixing desk. The modern '2014 studio'. Empty record boxes are piling up in multiple spots in the room. Other essentials include batteries, scalpel and comb. Note the hi-tech monitors, amount of space/feng shui, job diary and great view of the fence – all motivation essentials.

Bed and posters: Butter Sessions, Prometheus, Dribble, Actress…  Doesn't look as depressing in real life. Keeping to my Scottish heritage.

Cupboard Shot. Posters and photos. In another life I could be a designer.

Bonsai sits on top of Phillip K Dick and Arthur C Clarke, which sits on empty record boxes.  Next to it a plastic bottle of Mount Gay Rum, months old, notice the precipitation. Got a new health care card too!

Records and tapes. Notable mentions go to:
Beatrice Dillon - Blues Dances CS, Puce Mary - Ultimate Hypocrisy CS, Pender Street Steppers - Life in the Zone CS, Lnrdcroy - Much less Normal CS, Imhotep and Freejack on Future Archaic CS, Dribble on Cool Death CS, Reel Torque Vol 3 - Jamal Moss (live) CS, DJ Guy unearth tracks - Crisis Urbana CS

More records and gear: MFB 522, MC202, Monotribe, SK-1, DX100 and Tascam tape deck. Middle of cupboard is all jungle and 90's Drum'n'Bass with a few ambient bits for good measure. Experimental music up top (Warp, Rephlex, Brainfeeder, old rock/punk/noise). Note the Strandbeest also.

A few special records I've been clearing dance floors with lately:
AFX - Analord 01 - Always gets people walking out for a smoke
Gravats 001 - proper experimental techno, get it while you can
Beau Wanzer - Killer album of hardware jams, sounds big in a club – one for the freaks.
M Buckley on NO LABEL (rush hour) - amazing krautrock / techno.  Dunno why this wasn't bigger, maybe my favourite record this year.
Daywalker + CF - Insectorium has the vibes, dope stamp, dope record.
Dribble 7" - New one from the Cool Death Records camp.  Another great aussie punk record
