Deadmau5's Next Album Will be His "First"

“It's the first album I've ever done that I would even call an album," the rat lord tweeted.

Joel Zimmerman, more commonly known as Deadmau5, doesn't care what you think about his previous albums or why you might like them. As far as he's concerned, this next one is all that matters.

"Its just that its the first album ive ever done that i would even call an album… it's put together like an album. not a compilation [sic]," he tweeted earlier this afternoon, finally acknowledging his long awaited seventh full-length release. "I know the album release has been dragging, but after yet another listen here, i think it'll be worth the wait."

Last October, Deadmau5 signed to Astralwerks—home of Fatboy Slim, David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia—after a cantankerous split with Ultra Records (see his farewell tweet: "Fuck you @ultrarecords IM OUT. :)"). He had released six albums under Ultra: Get Scraped (2005), Vexillology (2006), Random Album Title (2008), For Lack of A Better Name (2009), 4x4=12 (2010) and Album Title Goes Here (2012).

Back in January Mau5 announced the newest 25-track album was "ready to fucking go," but hadn't said anything else about it until today, when he snuck out of the mouse house to update his fans. In the meantime, he's been keeping busy with other stints like coffee runs (filmed conversations with DJs like Eric Prydz, giving an EDM-twist to the Seinfeld's famous "Coffee in Cars with Comedians") and stunts (like the fake hacking of his Twitter account by Anonymous on April Fool's Day). Earlier in April, he confirmed his return to a residency at XS Las Vegas. He's also been keping busy trolling Avicii by (maybe?) sarcastically playing "Levels" when he covered for the injured headliner at Ultra.

The Mau5 has never cared what anyone else thinks, so don't expect him to start now. The album will arrive when he's ready, whenever that may be, so stay tuned for details.
