Dntel's Remixed The Album Leaf and the Result Is as Enchanting as You'd Expect

Jimmy Tamberello's take on "Never Far" is midsummer anthem for the sad lads out there.

As Dntel, Jimmy Tamborello's spent the last 15 years or so crafting the kind of miniaturist, microhouse-inflected downbeat electropop that makes beardy blokes in breton striped tops weep into their cold brew coffee. Records like 2001's seminal Life is Full of Possibilities came on like Basic Channel fronted by Stuart Murdoch from Belle & Sebastian, and at least twenty times a year we here at THUMP find ourselves running out for a box of Kleenex after hearing the Superpitcher remix of "(This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan".

Unbelievably, there's room for two Jimmy's in the wistful-electronica game, and Tamborello's been a longterm collaborator with his namesake, Jimmy LaValle, AKA The Album Leaf. LaValle and his band of not-so-merry men are back with a new album—Between Waves—out in late August on Relapse Records and the lads have decided to knock heads with a dreamy, hazy, shimmering remix of forthcoming album track "Never Far."

LaValle had this to say about the whole shebang. "I met Jimmy after I spent a short amount of time playing in his old band, Strictly Ballroom back in 1998. He was incredibly talented and was experimenting with electronic music back then. He opened my eyes to it. He's obviously gone on to release records under many monikers (Dntel, Figurine, James Figurine & The Postal Service) but he also has more then a handful of remixes under his belt. I asked him if he'd be up for a remix, I was more then grateful that he was, less then 24 hrs later, he sent me this mix. I was blown away and I absolutely love it."

So there you have it. Jimmy loves it, we love it, you'll love it too. Check it out exclusively here on THUMP right now.
