Emika's "DREI" Mix Offers an Inside Look at Her New Album

the UK/Berliner soundbender's first LP outside of Ninja Tune finds her keeping it dark, weird, and deep.

UK/Berliner soundbender Emika has already enjoyed a storied career since her first major release in 2010. Her accolades include sound designing at Native Instruments, releasing two albums on seminal leftist label Ninja Tune, collaborating with Berghain resident Marcel Dettman, and taking on David Bowie.

For her third sojourn out from under the watchful wing of Ninja Tune, Emika is set to release DREI on her own Emika Records on May 4. In preparation for the release, Emika's put together the following mix exclusively for THUMP.

As we've come to expect from the producer/DJ/singer/performer, the mix is a dark affair, put together with a deft touch. It weaves in and out of tracks from the album towards brooding sonic landscapes from the likes of Boddika, Ruffhouse, and her collaborations with Kamikaze Space Programme and Robert Hood. It's an enrapturing listen and assertively states the musical perspective behind the album.

"I edited some drum and bass into techno, special vocal edits, some weird edits I made mixing Bruckner symphonies with Robert Hood," Emika tells THUMP. "It's also got sneak previews of tracks from my new album DREI and some exclusive bits coming later in the year on Emika Records"
