Rising Stars Icarus are Flying High on "Gold"

Better than a pair of waxy wings.

Icarus, famously, decided to show off a while ago and piss off his dad Daedalus by zipping a bit too close to the sun for his paternally-assembled set of wings. And that was that.

Dragging themselves from the depths of the seas of myth and lore, this Icarus are refreshingly assured and hopefully a bit more humble than the bloke they've nicked their name from. "Gold" is a low-rolling slice of early-00s downbeat nostalgia, coming on like Squarepusher in cargo pants. An enveloping bassline lollopps about, 2-steppy percussion clicks and cuts, glissando flourishes punctuate the whole thing like sunshine on a rainy day.

With an EP on the way via Pete Tong's resurgent FFRR label - an imprint that proves transmuting into a popular bit of cockney slang in no way reflects a man's business decisions - Icarus are set to fly high. Just not too high, lads. For your own sake.
