Watch Ryan Playground Meander Through a Surreal Clubscape in "Ascension" Music Video

Montreal-based producer Ryan Playground has shared a new music video for "Ascension," a track from her debut album Elle, released this year via Ryan Hemsworth's Secret Songs.

The song begins simply with what sounds like the ticking of a persistent clock; the beat slows down, then speeds up again before swelling in lazy chords and twinkling melodies. The video, like the track itself, feels simple at first and gradually progresses in complexity. Starting in an unadorned, dimly lit room, the clips follows the artist as she heads to a club, with lights and animation exploding as the music rises.

"Ascension" was directed by Malo of Montreal collective Silverstag.

Additionally, Secret Songs has just announced a Canadian mini-tour featuring Hemsworth, Playground, and Harrison beginning in May.
