Crate Expectations: NiCe7

Sorry, Ashford & Simpson... but NiCe7's worst guilty pleasure song is your 80's hit.

Like most people, DJs and producers have specific songs tied to events throughout their lives. In Crate Expectations, we extract a playlist from their memories to tell their story. This week's subject: Nicola Daniele and Cesare Marocco of NiCe7.

THUMP: What's the first song you ever loved?
Cesare: When I was really young, I used to steal records from my sister's collection. I will never forget when I first heard the Depeche Mode song "Never Let Me Down Again." I think was the first song I really loved… and I still love.

What are the first two songs you ever mixed together?
Nicola: My first approach with turntables was with these two songs: BumbleBee's "Unlimited" and Lady Bug and Chic's "Good Times." It was at my uncle's house, who used to be a radio DJ. I was 12 years old and I didn't really mix them [laughs].

What is your worst guilty pleasure song?
Cesare: Sorry, Ashford & Simpson… but my 'worst guilty pleasure song' is your song "Solid."

What song have you had on repeat in the last month?
Nicola: "Surrender" by Portable featuring Lcio.

Which track of your own do you love the most?
NiCe7: We both like "Time To Get Physical."

What track of your own do you hate the most?
NiCe7:We hate almost every one of our own tracks when we're bouncing the premaster [laughs].

What track are you most excited to drop in a set?
Nicola:Our new single featuring Lazarusman, which is coming out on October 5 on Noir Music, called "Dark Walls."

What's your favourite track that you wish worked in a set?
Cesare: "Mystic Force" by Psychic Harmony.

What's the last song you want to hear before the lights go on?
Nicola: Gui Boratto's "Beautiful Life." It's definitely one of my favourite tracks ever.

NiCe7 will perform at the Summerdaze and Desert Hearts season closing event in Toronto at District 28 on August 29. The duo will perform alongside Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, and Marbs. For more information and to grab tickets, visit their event page here.
