Watch the New Video for Mumbai Science's "Déjà Vu"

A heartbroken swamp creature steals a Porsche, goes on a fertilizer bender, tries to fight cops.

Oh, jaded creatures of the night—are you bored with the monotonous cycle of endless clubbing? Have your evenings become mundane spirals of networking, overpriced alcohol, and small talk? Does it all feel like a dull kind of déjà vu? Well, Mumbai Science gets you, and they're here to wreak a little bit of havoc in your lifestyle.

The Belgian duo's new video stars a jilted Swamp Man who decides that everything sucks and goes on a rampage that involves fast cars, drugs, and an altercation with the cops that ends in tragedy. How punk rock is that? "I feel he represents a lost soul," says Maarten Elen, one-half of the Belgian duo. "He's misunderstood—good intentions, but bad decisions."

On their debut album, also named Déjà Vu, the former punk rockers have taken their DIY approach to dance music. "We're trying to make interesting sounds with cheap machines, organizing small shows, having a blast, being close to your fans and hanging out after the shows," says Elen's counterpart Jonas Kiesekoms. "We both grew up in a town where you had two scenes: punk rock and techno—and we had friends in both scenes." Their video for "Déjà Vu," directed by London-based Ehsan B, smacks of a subtle dissatisfaction with the status quo, shaded with a boyish positivity about the creative potential of fucking shit up. "Fuck the industry," says Elen. "It's really just a matter of how to spend your energy and to engage with the music you love." When asked how they came to drop the guitars in favor of synths and drum machines, Keisekoms reminds us that at the core, dance music and punk rock are really about "the energy and the friendship! So many people dancing their asses of to the same music has to mean something." Watch their new video, check another track off of their forthcoming debut, and keep your ears peeled for more form these young troublemakers.
