J. Albert's Affecting New Single Can't Seem to Sit Still

Exotic Dance Records boss Jiovanni Nadal, a.k.a. J. Albert, today shared a soulful new track off his upcoming All The Things EP for Hypercolour. The record marks his first release of the year after an impressively prolific 2016, and Nadal makes up for last time by cramming as many ideas into "Don't Hide It" as he possibly can. The tune's equilibrium changes with each section, whether through shifting instrumentation or an unexpected new rhythm, but despite the moving parts it never loses its emotional directness.

The glue for "Don't Hide It" is a prominent vocal sample, and Nadal told THUMP about what it meant for him over email. "It's gotten too easy to hide away from the world," he said. "What am I afraid of? Don't hide it."

The Queens-based producer runs Exotic Dance with L.I.E.S. affiliate Person Of Interest, and THUMP sat down with the two of them last year to learn about their approach to the up-and-coming label.

Nadal's EP will be released on May 28 and is available for pre-order.
