This year's Supersonic and Sunburn festivals, set to take place December 27-30 in Goa, India—during the state's peak tourism season—are due to undergo heightened security measures because of "a terror threat posed by extremist groups like the Islamic State," reports the Business Standard. Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar has suspended the festivals' permissions until they comply with requests for heightened security, telling the IANS that they will have to increase the number of metal detectors and sniffer dogs at their venues as part of the measures. He did not specify the exact nature of the threat.

"We want the best security in view of the IS threat," he said. "The single window permission committee headed by the chief secretary, which grants permission for such events has decided to ask the organisers of the events to increase security on site." He added that there would be police at the festivals, "but the organisers will also have to increase the security in view of the threat."

Sunburn is set to be headlined by the likes of Dimitri Vegas, David Guetta, and Martin Garrix, while Supersonic features Axwell, Disclosure, and Zedd.

We have made requests for comment from Sunburn representatives and Supersonic's parent company, Viacom 18, and will update this post as it develops.
