Crate Expectations: Marc Houle

The Canadian live act shares the tracks that make up his minimal sound.
Like most people, DJs and producers have specific songs tied to events throughout their lives. In Crate Expectations, we extract a playlist from their memories to tell their story. This week's subject: Marc Houle.

THUMP: What's the first song you ever loved?
Marc: Berlin's "Metro." Such a great dark sounding synth line.

What are the first two songs you ever mixed together?
Funnily enough, it was Berlin's "Metro" with another copy. I had to make a super long version because I liked the song so much.

What is your worst guilty pleasure song?
I know people would think this is a really cheesy sound, unless of course, they got into Twin Peaks.

What song have you had on repeat in the last month?
I heard this at some store and it was stuck in my head, so I went home and listened to it about 20 times.

Which track of your own do you love the most?

I don't know, tough question to ask. I guess at the moment it's "Sweet." It's a fun one.

What track of your own do you hate the most?
Hate my own tracks? That's crazy.

What track are you most excited to drop in a set?
Yonkers is fun. It starts off with a drone and goes nutso from there. It's fun to play because it gives me a little reset before some action.

Marc will return to America this October for a fall tour, spanning through five cities, including El Paso, Denver, Chicago, Miami and Detriot.
