We can only hope Chromeo are working on their own track for the Montreal Canadians.

Following previous forays into amateur motor sports, virtual reality gaming, and YouTube talkshows, Deadmau5 has set his sights on the lucrative world of professional sports, composing an original song for the Toronto Maple Leafs in honour of the National Hockey League team's 100th anniversary.

In a recent interview with CBC Music, the Canadian producer admitted he wasn't entirely sure how the opportunity came about, saying "I just saw an email come down the pipe and replied with 'Hell yeah, I'm down.'" He also discussed playing the sport as a child, and expressed his desire to meet longtime Coach's Corner host and suit aficionado Don Cherry ("Reminds me of a few crazy uncles I know").

As far as Toronto sports anthems go, it's infinitely better than the cloying "OK Blue Jays," but pales in comparison to the MLB team's funky 1977 theme song by Paul's People. And who knows, perhaps it will inspire other Canadian electronic artists to try their hand at making future arena classics. Chromeo giving former Montreal Canadians great Guy Lafleur's disco record a talkbox-heavy 2016 update? Pender Street Steppers dropping a Vancouver Canucks-inspired ambient slapper? The possibilities are endless!

Listen to the full version here, and watch a clip of the song's debut at the Air Canada Centre last weekend below.
