Brandon Smith is Tendencies, the Edmonton producer breaking down sound barriers. He hails from a tight-knit community of like-minded individuals, all of whom seem to create similar sounding ear-candy house jams otherwise known as future funk.Future funk, which borrows traits from both French house and the Internet's aged HTML visuals, is Smith's musical calling. As Tendencies, his latest releases display his affinity for infectious groove and 8-bit melodies. After a year in, he's shown no signs of letting up, following up with a split release with supersex420. "When I started working on the mix, I set out to curate the best sounding electronic music that is being made right now," says Smith. "All of these tracks are great for the dancefloor and for chilling out, which is not an easy thing to accomplish!"
Getting by with a little help from his friends, Smith enlisted a handful fellow up-and-coming producers for his Northmix. Each of the tracks made by his pals are exclusive to the mix and demonstrate quite the creative class nested in the depths of the internet. It's 45 minutes of feel-good music and Smith couldn't be happier to be the one to show it off. "It's amazing! I love when these opportunities pop up because it really gets me into a creative spurt," he gleams.
