Katie Rex Made Us an Exclusive Mix for DOWNLOAD, the Official Afterparty for American Realness

The party will be presented by The Culture Whore, "a community of artists exploring queerness in all its forms."

American Realness is an annual festival of new dance and contemporary performance, founded in 2010 by Thomas Benjamin Snapp Pryor, who curates and produces it to this day. After launching it was immediately met with widespread critical acclaim, going on to be cited as #1 in Artforum's Best of Dance that year, and has since established itself as one of New York's arts events to be reckoned with. This year's edition is set to take place from January 7 - January 17, and is set to include a huge range of performances featuring everyone from Claudia La Rocco to Erin Markey and Thomas F. DeFrantz. You can see the full schedule here.

The official afterparty for this year's American Realness is poised to be great, because it'll be hosted by Brooklyn-based art collective The Culture Whore. Founded by Dream Dommu and Paul Leopold, they describe themselves as "a community of artists exploring queerness in all its forms by creating ephemeral spaces and permanent platforms that cultivate connectivity, inclusivity, free expression, and pleasure."

The party will take place Saturday and is called DOWNLOAD. The Culture Whore told THUMP via email that it will be "a journey through cyberspace, reflecting on how technology has empowered underground communities, marking this moment in time as a screenshot of love, and archiving creations for future generations." The list of artists they've got lined up is just as special as the occasion is. THUMP contributor Katie Rex, Brooklyn artist Sadaf, promotor David Sokolowski, and Sweat Equity's JX Cannon will DJ, while on the performance end of things you can expect Davon Rainey's "genderbending dance", Zebulon Gone's "sexy post-Internet industrial sounds," Chris of Hur's "outrageous punk drag," and a live set from Destiny, formerly known as Princess Nokia.

In anticipation of the party, Katie Rex was generous enough to make us an enthralling mix called "Galactica II," featuring tracks from the likes of George Fitzgerald, DJ Pierre, L-Vis 1990, and more. Stream that below in anticipation of Saturday's festivities, buy your tickets for the party here, and see the tracklist after the jump.
