Lane 8 Never Got a Bar Mitzvah, Did Remix Mike Mago

Flying the flag for a new generation of house heads.

Being a nice Jewish boy myself, it's always nice to see a fellow member of the tribe making jams that jack so hard they would make my grandma drop her pot of matzoh ball soup. Lane 8 is one such mensch, and he's flying the flag for a new generation of house heads.

The California native has been slugging out tunes on UK label Anjunadeep, pioneering a house music revival that may soon take the Beatport throne back from the dubstep kids. The future is bright for Mr. Goldstein and we just got the chance to talk with the young lad about his blossoming career, and got some tips about how to avoid Facebook employees on the streets of Palo Alto. And of course we talked about his love for sampling the weird noises that Jeff Goldblum makes in Jurassic Park. Because who doesn't love those?

THUMP: What's your name?
Lane 8: Daniel Norman Goldstein.

Where are you from?
Palo Alto, California.

One line about your hometown?
Insufferable Facebook employees invade innocent town with devastating success.

Did you get a bar mitzvah? Was it awesome?
Nope. Surprising, isn't it? With the name and all.

How did you pick the name Lane 8?
My sister came up with it. When you are the slowest swimmer in a swim race, you get put in lane eight (the outside lane).

What labels do you record for?
Anjunadeep is my one and only.

Other than a club or a house, what's the best environment to hear your music (real or imagined)?
The Trans-Siberian railroad.

What is your favorite sound (or sounds) right now?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBxgAmdPQWg

What are your thoughts on the so-called "deep house revival" that we're experiencing at the moment?
I think deep house and dubstep should unite to form deepstep [ed's note: this has already happened].

Name three non musical inspirations.
Nature, good movies, and travel.

Name three non musical creative endeavors that are important to you.
Cooking is very important. I like to build furniture sometimes. I can't think of a third thing and I don't want to lie to you, so let's leave it at that

Who is one up-and-coming artist you think we should look out for and why?
Croquet Club is one to look out for on the label. He has a really fresh style and a knack for creating a good hook.

What's next for you?
Remixes for the rest of summer, then back to originals later in the year. I'm also playing some of shows in the US and Mexico in the next couple months.
