Northmix: Richard Brooks

It's deep, it's passionate, it's sultry—it's what humidity looks like in the movies.

"If you appreciate deep, passionate, and sultry compositions Richards sound is truly for you." Although quite the cunning slogan, it's one that dutifully characterizes the musical output of Richard Brooks.

Brooks is a Toronto-based DJ and house music producer who, thanks to an unending appetite for quality music, has a genuine understanding of the dance music scene. Over the past two decades, Brooks has released on distinguished labels including Wave Music, Viva, Play Records, and Hed Kandi, and performed alongside artists like The Martinez Brothers, Kerri Chandler, and recently, Mark Farina at Toronto's Sunnyside Sessions.

Unlike the marketing ploys of most slogans, Brooks' doesn't lie. The mix is dripping in hypnotic vocal samples and becomes a sensory-overload of steamy, tropical tinges. It's deep, it's passionate, it's sultry—it's what humidity looks like in the movies.

Richard Brooks will perform alongside Richy Ahmed and Audiofly this weekend, August 22, at the Sunnyside Sessions at Sunnyside Pavilion in Toronto. For more information and tickets, visit the event page.
