Brooklyn producer and DJ, Tygapaw, has shared a severe edit of Dawn Richard's former band Danity Kane ahead of RUDE GYAL, Tygapaw's Fake Accent collective's closing party for the MAMI exhibition at Knockdown Center in Queens this Saturday. For the track, Tygapaw, real name Dion McKenzie, takes on the almost baroque-sounding "Bad Girl" featuring Missy Elliot, off 2008's Welcome to the Dollhouse, interpolating it with work from Russian producer AN SYSTEM—the result sounds like an assembly of machines tearing each other apart in polyrhythmic synchrony, bringing the a cappella into a slightly more unglued and exhilarating register.

"I've been a huge fan of Danity Kane since Making the Band," she said. "I've been dying to do a club edit of one their tracks, and this just seems like the perfect time to do an edit of 'Bad Girl' for RUDE GYAL, the Labor Day weekend turn up fi all di bad gyal dem looking for a safe space to get on bad."

The event description for RUDE GYAL describes it as a "fête of the feminine future with an audio/visual spiral," featuring sets from Tygapaw herself as well as UNIIQU3, Mursi Layne, Princess Nokia, BAMBII, and D0UZE. The Knockdown Center is located at 52-19 Flushing Ave., Queens, NY; tickets are $10 advance and $15 at the door.

Tygapaw is featured in THUMP's photo essay on the faces of Brooklyn's queer party scene from earlier this summer; in January, she teamed up with Sweat Equity co-founder JX Cannon to record a scorching b2b set ahead of a performance at NYC's Club Austerity party.
