Fabric Will Not Have Sniffer Dogs at the Door, Thank God

The iconic London nightclub won its appeal against local authorities, which originally required increased security measures.

In December of 2014, London local authorities voted to impose tightened security measures on the iconic Fabric nightclub. A report filed to the Islington Council earlier that month pointed out that the club had seen four drug-related deaths in three years, and the changes were promoted as a way of addressing that. The council's licensing committee voted for the implementation of sniffer dogs, as well as ID scans for all clubbers, improved CCTV and more rigorous drug searches, London Evening Standard reported.

In the following months Fabric appealed the council's decision on the grounds that some of the safety measures may be unlawful and even "counterproductive," the club's spokesperson told the Islington Gazette. Today Resident Advisor reported that they won their appeal against the local council, and that the new safety and security measures will not be enforced. So you won't be needing those smell-proof vacuum-sealed packages after all.

One RA commenter summed up the mood in response to this small victory:

"After a morose year of venues shutting down, luxury flats being built every fucking where and record shops closing one after the other, this news comes as a christmas gift for us Londoners. Props to Fabric management for being so thorough."
