The KLF Announce New Book, '2023: A Trilogy'

Enigmatic rave provocateurs the KLF, a.k.a. The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, today announced a new book 2023: A Trilogy. Due out this fall via Faber & Faber, the London publishing house describes the text as a "utopian costume drama, set in the near future, written in the recent past." 2023: A Trilogy has already completely sold out on Faber's website.

The KLF have been hinting at a return of some kind for just over a month now. On January 3, the duo shared an enigmatic 46-minute video suggesting they might be back, and then a poster popped up saying that they were "currently at work" on something that "will not be made public until the 23rd August 2017." It is unclear if they are working on anything besides this book.

The poster said that an entity called K 2 Plant Hire Ltd could be contacted for more information about the project, who is also named in affiliation with 2023: A Trilogy on Faber's website. The KLF previously used that moniker to promote their 1997 single "Fuck the Millennium," itself produced under another moniker, 2K. The promotion also involved a short story and the announcement of a structure called "The People's Pyramid," never built, which was marketed as an alternative to the Millennium Dome and would have been built from as many bricks as there were births in Britain during the 20th century.

K 2 Plant Hire Ltd's website only features two photographs of posters: the previously-documented one from last month, and another promoting 2023: A Trilogy. It seems possible that the first was in reference to the book, and so it might be released on August 23.
