Listen to an Exclusive Mix by the One and Only Skream

To celebrate the release of a new 12" on Crosstown Rebels, Oliver Jones has put together this flawless hour of trippy tech-house for your listening pleasure.

For just over a decade, Oliver Jones—better known to his adoring fans around the world as Skream—has been at the forefront of UK club culture. Alongside the rest of the squad that congregated in the record shops of Croydon, Jones was absolutely pivotal to the origins and emergence of dubstep, the South London sound that went on to conquer the world.

A few years back now, Jones decided to lay his dubstep days to rest, concentrating on playing and producing everything from star-spangled disco to lean, lithe, tech-house. That transition sent his profile stratospheric, and you'll now find him playing near the top of the bill at pretty much every major dance-dominated festival in the world.

This month has seen him team up with Damian Lazarus and the rest of the Crosstown Rebels crew for another release on the esteemed imprint. The You Know Right/Minor Smooth 12" is tough and taut stuff, ripe and ready for big rooms and headline sets.

To celebrate what's been another stellar year for Skream, we reached out to the man himself and asked him to record a mix for us. He duly obliged, and the result is nothing short of spectacular. Showcasing Jones' finely-tuned ear for the clankier, steelier, end of the house and techno spectrum, the result is just over an hour's worth of cutting-edge club music that flits between tribal percussive workouts, spacey excursions into the deeper reaches of the deep house stratosphere, and peak-time tech-house minimalism.

We're absolutely honored to be bringing you this mix today, alongside a very brief chat with Skream. You're going to love it as much as we do. Which is a lot.

THUMP: How are we meant to enjoy the mix? What's the perfect setting?

Skream:

I really like listening to it in the car. It's a good one to listen to before coming to watch me play as it really gives you an idea of the sort of stuff Im playing at the moment.

Is synesthesia a real thing and if so, what color is this mix?
Orange rim with a deep red centre.

If you could only listen to one track from the mix on a loop for all eternity, which one would it be and why?
Art Crimes' "Dead Carnation". It's an absolute beast of a tune. It's actually flawless, definitely my favorite track of the year!

Where did you record it?
The mix was recorded live at Maison De Skream.

Favorite moment of the mix?
I'm really happy with the mix as a whole. If it can be a transition it would be what happens between the 26th and 27th minutes.
