Arca Is Dragged Across the Forest Floor in the Video For "Desafío"

The sensual track is off his new self-titled album, released last week.

Alejandro Ghersi, a.k.a. Arca, and longtime collaborator Jesse Kanda have shared a music video today for "Desafío," a standout from the producer's recent self-titled album. The clip stars Ghersi in a BDSM-inspired outfit, singing the song's violent lyrics while intermittently being dragged across a forest floor.

Eventually he's deposited in a foggy clearing lit like a club or a stadium, where he's encircled by four men. Ghersi stumbles around, disoriented by emotional distress, and brushes sensually against two of the men before toppling to the floor. All four of the onlookers then come together and lift his limp body off the ground, at times breaking the fourth wall by locking eyes with the camera in passive desire. The combination of their empathic kinship with Ghersi's agony is disarming and heartening, perhaps even more so because there isn't any kind of concrete plot to tie it in with.

Ghersi released his self-titled album Arca last week. For more, read our essay about the record, which examines how it's a bit like a bullfight—gory and hard to look away from.
