Booka Shade's "Wildest Thing" Gets a Rare '118 Mix' Ahead of New Live Tour

According to the famed German techno duo, it's their first track under 120 BPM to ever appear on a 12" release.

German techno titans, Booka Shade, are known for upbeat tracks that quickly rock the club's peak-hour (or their acclaimed live sets), versus those that subtly groove. But after a recent studio session with fellow German techno icons M.A.N.D.Y, their latest club weapon "Wildest Thing," has been taken in a rare direction, with a new version dubbed the "118 Mix." It's taken their iconic sound into much deeper territory, and is actually the first track to ever appear on one of their 12" EPs under 120 BPM.

"We play in a lot of house and techno clubs, so we produce most of our music around 123/125 BPM," Arno and Walter of the duo tell THUMP. "As you can hear on any of our five albums though, we've always loved to do downbeat stuff. With a slower tempo, the beats have more time to breathe, the vibe is more relaxed, and you can move your body in a different way." The group even references their Cinematic Shades compilation, which showcased some of their downtempo material three years ago.

Gearing up for a new tour that will take their live set to North America, Asia, Australia, and parts of Europe, Booka Shade's readied a new live show that will continue breathing different life into their decade-spanning catalogue. They explain how some of their new tricks come as a result of how they like to play out their occasional DJ set:

"DJing gives us the opportunity to be a lot more flexible and spontaneous when it comes to song selection, so we brought some of that spirit into the new live show. We remixed every song of our catalogue that we want to play, and can be a lot more creative with our set lists and arrangements," they say.
