Fresh off contributing to the just-released DJ Rashad tribute album Afterlife, Chicago footwork young blood DJ Earl has shared Reggie Sackz, an appropriately spacey and visceral 4/20-themed new EP. The release comes via NYC producer and songwriter Suzi Analogue's label Never Normal Records, and includes a collaboration with rapper Wiki of the NYC hip-hop group Ratking, entitled "Grind," as a special bonus track.

Earl has been quite busy lately, as he's got a solo record forthcoming on Teklife, following the Live Love Teklife EP he released last fall. In a recent interview with Wine & Bowties, he coyly suggested that Brooklyn experimentalist Oneohtrix Point Never was involved, and that "[they] put together the entire album together actually."

All that didn't keep him from putting together the intoxicatingly detuned synths, elliptical horn lines, and pummeling, lush beats on display here, though. For the occasion of this premiere, Earl sat down to talk to THUMP about the release via email: "I made Reggie Sackz about a year ago in the studio after not making tracks for months because I was on tour," he said. "After I made it I realized it was kinda jazzy, and that's been my vibe lately outside of doing ambient sounding footwork. This sound is also my motivation for the ending of my album forthcoming on Teklife."

Earl told us he was planning to trade clubs for big stages and multi-media curation when we spoke to him at the beginning of the year. When we met Suzi Analogue, on the other hand, she told us about how she went from self-recording feminist manifestos as a child to getting a Moog synth sponsorship.

The release will be available digitally and in a limited cassette run, exclusively available from Never Normal and in-store at Turntable Lab NYC. On top of the EP, the label has also shared a frenetic, extremely high-speed video for the title track, shot in Brooklyn by the incubator and studio HalfmanHalfmachine.
