Healings' "Holy Water" Feels Like the Last Sighs of Summer

With Andre 3000 popping up on Frank Ocean's latest album Blond for the searing, politically-charged "Solo (Reprise)," and today marking the 20th anniversary of Outkast's sophomore album ATLiens, there's never been a better time to revisit the pioneering Atlanta hip-hop duo's extensive back catalogue. In this spirit, Josh McIntyre—best known as one half of Toronto synth-pop duo Prince Innocence—has shared his latest track under his Healings moniker, "Holy Water."

Building around Three Stacks' gentle sighs from "Prototype," a romantic ode from Outkast's 2003 double-LP Speakerboxx/The Love Below, McIntyre added a slow-burning house beat, which hazily envelops the vocals. While he tells THUMP via email that the inspiration for the song struck while on a "never-ending, soul-crushing" winter bus ride from Montreal to Toronto, the end result feels perfectly tailored for after-hours parties during the dog days of summer.
