NORTHMIX: City Kid Soul

Burritos and booty-shakin' are this Toronto duo's credited musical influences.

Somewhere there's a Boy Scouts motto that fosters the values of sharing and working together. Downpour Recordings and ALL BLAK Records are two Toronto labels―both teeming with local talent―who must've earned a couple Scout badges in teamwork somewhere in their boyhoods. The two visionary labels have had a comradery since their formations and their cooperation in the industry is easily detectible. In a recent interview with us, ALL BLAK's Paul Quzz gave the Downpour guys a virtual high-five, saying they "really get along [with them] and think they're really cool guys."

We at THUMP think the best things come from a mutual understand of damn good music and local harmony. With this notion, we give you exhibit A: City Kid Soul. Devin Rattie and Emma Pace are a collaborative identity who produce a deep house, garage and hip-hop inspired sound. Centered in the Toronto scene, the duo share an attribution to both Downpour and ALL BLAK―with EPs signed and released through both. Since their inception in 2013, the duo quickly became popular through their weekly patio parties in London, ON at Elevate. Now official Toronto residents, the twosome have regular gigs at clubs like Switch, Wrongbar and The Hoxton.

Furthering the concept of 'two great things coming together' are their Facebook musical influences―crediting "burrito's and booty-shakin." Why not have both, right?
