Northmix: Michael Red

What and who is Michael Red? He is an artist first and foremost. After trials with ambient and experimental sounds under the alias Souns, Red became the leader of Low Indigo, the founding member of Lighta! Sound, and half of dub duo Chambers. There is little that Red hasn't explored.

For this installment of Northmix, Red debuts his more serene side with a peaceful mix—one he says was a privilege to play. He appreciates the moments when dancefloors are without expectations and are experienced authentically. "It was the start of the night and the perfect setting for the type of music," Red tells THUMP.

Red will play in his home province for the 2015 edition of B.C.'s Bass Coast festival as well. "I'm just excited to hang out with that many good people all in one spot together," he says. "In the open, air surrounded by mountains."

Red's ambient mood will wrap around cliffs and mountains of the West Coast like a warm blanket—a dark, moody, and slightly melancholic-warm blanket, that is.
