RYAN Playground and Thomas White Take a Midnight Dip in "Drunk Mind, Sober Heart" Video

The half-animated visual for the Montreal producers' collaboration came together with only one casualty.

Montreal-based producers RYAN Playground and Thomas White have shared a new music video for their collaboration, "Drunk Mind, Sober Heart."

Originally appearing on the latter's Innerspace EP, released last year on RAW Records, the track offers an eclectic juxtaposition of textures. The duo's percussive articulations are set against Playground's feathery falsetto, which is sampled and deconstructed to give the impression of slurred speech. For the clip, director Malo of Montreal collective Silverstag, pairs playful black and white animation with footage of the duo pursuing a midnight pool hop, which unexpectedly caused a casualty during production.

"On the way to my uncle's place (where we shot parts of the video), I had a strange feeling that someone was going to get hurt and I said 'Guys be careful please with the pool…' I quite sounded like a mom, but I was worried for some reason!" Playground told THUMP via email. "Next thing you know, my friend Arthur stands out of the water with blood dripping down his face… he still has a scar on his forehead, at least it looks pretty badass. Moral of the story, pools always look deeper than they actually are!"

Watch the video above and look for Playground's full-length debut album on Ryan Hemsworth's Secret Songs/Last Gang Records later this year.
