Skudge Pays Channels the Uncanniness of Autechre with His Destabilized New Track

Swedish techno diehard Elias Landberg, a.k.a. Skudge, today shared his haunting contribution to the forthcoming REPITCH label compilation Dys Functional Electronic Music in "Buchla.M1000." The release celebrates the Berlin imprint's five-year anniversary, and for the occasion Landberg has composed a ruminative work that cyclically melts in and out of focus. "Buchla.M1000" may move along at a snail's pace, but it's decidedly deliberate in its movement, delivering an automated form of unsettlement.

Landberg told THUMP about the equipment he used for the track over email. "When I started to make the track. I first recorded the pad melody with my Oberheim Matrix 1000," he said. "I wanted to make something a darker than the usual Skudge sound. I made a bongo patch on my Buchla Easel and sampled it. Putted the sounds into my Analog Rytm and played with it. And added it to the pad melody i had already recorded. The drums were also made with the Analog Rytm. Got inspiration from early Autechre."

REPITCH was founded in 2012 by the experimental producers Ascion, D.Carbone and Shapednoise.

Dys Functional Electronic Music will be out TK and is available for pre-order.
