London nightclub fabric is closing its doors this weekend in response to two deaths in the last nine weeks, according to a Facebook post by staff.

A media representative for the Metropolitan Police confirmed to THUMP over email that emergency services were called to the venue around 2:03 AM on Saturday, June 25 when an 18-year-old man collapsed. He died in the hospital shortly after. Another 18-year-old male died on the morning of Saturday, August 6, after "becoming unwell" outside of the venue. Autopsies are underway and while no official cause of death has been announced by the authorities, fabric indicated in their post that both deaths were drug-related.

Pending an official police investigation, the club has agreed to temporarily suspend its operations. Artists including Apollonia, Terry Francis, Ron Morelli, and Anthony Parasole were due to play this Saturday. Fabric has directed ticket buyers to Resident Advisor for refunds.

In 2014, authorities called for a review of the club's license after eight attendees collapsed at the venue due to illegal drug use, including MDMA, within a three-year span. Four of those attendees died. Though the club retained its license, they were required to implement new security measures such as ID scans, stricter searches, and drug-sniffing dogs. However, in 2015 it launched and won an appeal against the Islington Council citing the enormity of the involved costs.

Read fabric's full statement below. THUMP has reached out for additional comment.

"For the past two years fabric has operated without incident but tragically in the past nine weeks two 18-year-old boys have died as a consequence of drug overdoses. In order to understand how this has happened we have agreed with the police and other agencies to suspend our operation whilst we investigate. The club will therefore be closed this weekend.

We will make a further statement next week but in the meantime for anyone who has purchased a ticket for the club this weekend, we have instructed Resident Advisor to refund all ticket purchases."
