A Blissful Noise: Blanck Mass is Back

The Fuck Button returns with a righteous blast of synthsoaked euphoric noise.

It's not often that you're likely to find a new release on Brooklyn's scariest indie label Scared Bones here on THUMP, but when Benjamin John Power, AKA Blanck Mass sent us a telegraph from the Space Mountain studio he shares with fellow Fuck Button Andrew Hung, we momentarily stopped twiddling with our 808 and got in the zone.

As Blanck Mass. Power has steadily made a claim to be one of the UK's most invigoratingly experimental producers, with records that seamlessly fuse the perverse horror of dark edged, hauntologically-imbued, esoterica with noise's blast and fury, and the spectral drift of gauzy ambient records. May 11th sees the release of his second fully fledged full length, Dumb Flesh.

You're probably not expecting a song called "Detritus" from an album titled Dumb Flesh to be as oddly euphoric as this is. A classic US Noise style abrasive intro — calling Wolf Eyes and John Weise in their prime to mind — lifts off into synth-soaked bliss and climbs higher and higher. If the rest of the record's this stratospheric we're in for a massive, massive treat.
