Krankbrother on Stalkers, Scandal and Starting a Label

The brothers Clancy kickstart their new label with an outer-city sizzler

London based duo Krankbrother have a handle on almost every corner of the dance music scene, running well established parties, DJing, and recently turning to prodcuction. Not content bossing everything all of this however, the siblings have just announced that they are also launching their own label: krankbrother Records. Not only that, but they are premiering the first release exclusively with THUMP.

Kicking of the roster is "Suburban Scandal" and it is as huge as you'd expect, reflective of their mastery over the floor. Surefire and blindingly executed, if the output of Danny and Kieran Clancy's label continues in this direction, we should expect great things. If like us this premiere gets you all giddy, then you will be pleased to know you they have parties planned in Bristol's Motion and then London's Fire on the 20th and 21st of February.

As well as giving us an exclusive listen to "Suburban Scandal", the pair also found time to answer a few questions about the launch.

THUMP: What prompted starting the label?
Krankbrother: Now seems the right time after six years of krankbrother and years of dj'ing together. We wanted a platform to both support our own productions as well as music from producers that we've come across over the years.  When I was a kid I always wanted to work for a record label. Now we're starting our own one - it's just taken years of promoting, DJj'ing, opening restaurants and bars to finally come round to the label idea again.

Who can we expect releases from?
Rather than put out lots of music by friends in the industry, we'd prefer to put out music by lesser known artists. After our initial EP we have two really interesting EPs coming up from Jody Barr and Joe Munday.

How are you going to stand out from other labels?
By doing our own thing and not following but most importantly by not carving out a distinct sound for the label. We want the label to be eclectic and diverse.

What's the biggest suburban scandal you've ever been involved in?
Jesus, there's been a few at this point. I had a stalker a few years who told the police she had killed me. They then got involved and I had to keep an eye over my shoulder for weeks.  The worst bit was having to warn my neighbours about her - proper Suburban Scandal. Not nearly as funny as it sounds, still sends a chill down the spine actually.
