We're Taking over Dalston with Zanzibar Chanel and Capablanca

The best thing to happen to Kingsland Road since Mangal 2.

Ah, the bank holiday weekend. Is there anything better? A few days off work, a chance to turn guiltlessly turn off Gmail push notifications, Bond on the telly and a beer in your hand. Bliss. Total bliss. The thing is, as diverting as The World is Not Enough may be, wouldn't you rather be out doing the things you can't do on a normal weekend, like partying on a Sunday? Of course you would.

That's where Land of Kings comes in handy. On Sunday 3rd May, the festival will be representing heroes local and adopted, the programme toasts the E8 manor, ever-endowed with more music and arts venues than pretty much any corner of the capital. Alongside Dalston mainstays, festivities sprawl across everything from galleries and underground bunkers, to ocakbasi basements, car parks-cum-block parties and rooftop gigs, transforming the high street's humdrum. Record labels, art collectives, promoters and local eateries all weigh-in, for a 16-hour stomp around Kingsland.

This year's bumper line up includes the likes of Koreless, Krankbrother, Moxie, Psychemagik, The 2 Bears and Waze & Odyssey. Oh, and we're hosting our own stage too.

The esteemed THUMP DJs in action

Slipping into the subterranean underbelly of E8, we've joined forces with hotbed of DJ talent The Pool Agency for a very special Dalston disco. Taking over one of the neighbourhood's last remaining secret basements, the line-up sees Aussie duo Zanzibar Chanel make their UK festival debut with that hip-twisting, sweat-dripping, live diva house. They're joined by dapper Berlinite Hugo Capablanca. As founder of cult imprint Discos Capablanca and driving force behind boogie mecca Bananamania, it's wall-to-wall cut-a-rug rhythm when Hugo's in town. Completing the line-up, The Pool DJs and our very own THUMP DJs promise to warm up the floor with their own blend of party jams and elongated edits.

We grabbed Hugo for a teasingly brief chat ahead of the event.

THUMP: What've you got up your sleeve for Land of Kings? Can you give us the lowdown on the definitive Capablanca experience?
Capablanca: The only thing I can say is that I never know what is gonna happen. I like to create a few different situations depending on what I see, and then improvise. I often feed back from the crowd intensely, too, so we'll see what kind of scenario we have going on there. Expect the unexpected and you won't be disappointed.

Where are you gonna be hanging out in London?
Where the wild things are.

You can only play ONE record for your set…what do you go for?
