Leftfield are Back and Legowelt's Plunged Them Into an Electric Wormhole

The glorious return just even more glorious-er

The return of Leftfield this year was an unexpected delight, made all the more feverish by the revelation they were also going to be releasing their first album in 16 years. The waiting game has now begun, with Alternative Light Source slated for a June 8th release. If that is too long for you to wait, which it totally is for us, then you'll be pleased to know they are releasing the lead single "Universal Everything" on the 4th of May and you can listen to it now.

"Universal Everything" alone is a startling return to form for the British pioneers, a dark, thudding roar of pulsing synths and fervent hi-hats, that rises up to some absolutely monstrous highs. We've been listening to it incessantly since it dropped, so it's only reasonable that our excitement hit unmanageable levels when they asked if we wanted to premiere a Legowelt remix of the very same track here on THUMP.

Legowelt is a firm favourite of ours — an electronic producer, psychedelic beat-smith and wobbly-wizard responsible for making more music than Cliff Richard. What's more impressive is how every one of Danny Wolfers' multitude of efforts is as a daring and gorgeously gooey as the last. His work on "Universal Everything" is another sound to behold, swallowing the track in an electronic wormhole, chewing on the original with brilliant results.
