Let Proto-House Pioneer Mike Collins Take You on a Musical Tour of Latin America

Check out an exclusive track by the man behind Balearic classic "Rude Movements."

The name Mike Collins might not immediately mean a huge amount to you. "Mike Collins," you're thinking, "is Mike Collins the bloke who used to MOT my mum's Toyota Space Cruiser? Was Mike Collins a darts player? Did I once see Mark Collins alongside Kevin from Eggheads and Linda Lusardi in Puss in Boots at the Norwich Playhouse?"

Mike Collins, this Mike Collins, isn't any of those things. Mike Collins is a UK DIY jazz funk maverick, and you'll probably know him best for "Rude Movements," the David Mancuso favourite he produced under the Sun Palace moniker back in 1983. That record, a spacey, woozy, sunrising affair, will go down in Balearic history, but it wasn't the only thing Collins has done.

New label MIC have decided to launch themselves into the world with a collection of previously unreleased material by Collins. The result is Lost Tapes 1983-1989, a five-track EP that sees Collins exploring the murky waters of what we now think of as proto-house. It's already getting a lot of love from the likes of Ruf Dug and Max D, and if those boys are impressed, you should be too.

Before you splash the cash on the record on Friday, why not take an exclusive listen to "Latino Beats" right now. It sort of sounds exactly like the title—in the best way possible of course.
