Comedy Central's 'Drunk History' Reenacts Disco Demolition Night

As told by intoxicated narrator Bob Odenkirk.

Earlier this week, Comedy Central television series Drunk History—which features inebriated celebrity guests recounting famous historical events—took a musical turn with the retelling of Disco Demolition Night in its latest episode, titled "Shit Shows."

Disco Demolition Night refers to a 1979 incident at Chicago's Comiskey Park, during which thousands of disco records were destroyed and a riot broke out following a baseball game between the White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. The segment's narrator, actor and comedian Bob Odenkirk (of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame), right away makes his feelings of the genre known, prefacing it as "a terrible form of music."

Spilling his drink on himself upon first sip is a small sign of the wackiness to come, as he delves into the events leading up to the spectacle, including disco's emergence, the anti-disco scheming of radio DJ Steve Dahl (who lost his job when his rock n' roll station switched to the disco format), and the hiring of the demolition expert (a Vietnam vet portrayed by Patton Oswalt); as well as the madness that ensued. "It's a fucking disaster," Odenkirk says, concluding, "This event was one massive Tweet sent out by a generation of kids."
