The Diplo-Powered Trailer for Terrence Malick's New Film Will Make You Shake Your Cinephile Ass

Why is Christian Bale still so sad while the greatest twerking anthem of 00s plays?

Great American Auteur Terrence Malick (of Tree of Life and Thin Red Line fame) is set to release a new art-house epic this Friday, called Knight of Cups starring Christian Bale as a bored-looking guy named Rick. If past Malick films are any indication, Bale will undoubtedly spend a good portion of the film staring into the middle distance as the sun perpetually sets and he contemplates the weight of his own existence, or vaguely defined moral dilemmas. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll scratch your head. But that's not why we've called you here today, as you'll notice from a just-released new teaser, this time, our hapless protagonist heads to the club.

Set to an ambient edit of the squealing synth-line from Diplo and the late Nicky Da B's twerking anthem, "Express Yourself," Malick's latest trailer features the usual sort of soporific wandering from Bale. But this time, he's shown enjoying the pleasures of the flesh, which mostly means some between-the-sheets romps and neon-lit jaunts through hot nightlife spots. It raises a handful of the grand questions that Malick always wants you wondering in his intellectually weighty flicks, such as: are they meant to be playing an ambient track in a club where they're dancing like that? Why is he still so sad while the greatest ass-shaking anthem of 00s plays? Have Terrence Malick and Diplo met each other? What would that meal have been like? Can I hang out next time? Why am I dancing to this 40 second trailer for an art-house film?

Yeah, you'll want to watch it here.
