Electronic musicians including Mykki Blanco, The Black Madonna, Dawn Richard, and more took to Twitter last night to respond to the news that the film Moonlight won Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards. There was a major mix-up during the ceremony, when presenter Warren Beatty mistakenly awarded the Oscar to the Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone-starring musical La La Land after being given the wrong envelope.

Moonlight was directed by Los Angeles-based director Barry Jenkins, and tells the story a gay black man named Chiron's journey of self-discovery. The film is split into three parts, depicting Chiron's life as a young boy, a teenager, and finally as an adult.

English composer Mica Levi was nominated for an Oscar for the Jackie score, but lost to La La Land composer Justin Hurwitz.

MOONLIGHT, yes!! The world needed that story, Black people needed that story, toxic masculinity needed that story, yes!

I'm sorry that Moonlight had any part of that moment ruined for them. And I am delighted they won.
