Dosem’s New Album ‘City Cuts’ is a World Tour of the Dancefloor

Dive into this exclusive stream of the prolific Spaniards new album while you learn about how it all went down.

When it comes to pumping out quality dance music, the nation of Spain should not be overlooked. The country has given us the likes of Barcelona's John Talabot and Paco Osuna, hairdo extraordinaire Danny Avila, and the entire clique of artists that have found a home on Coyu's illustrious Suara label, most notably—Dosem. With a decade-spanning career, and soon-to-be three full-length albums in his DJ bag, the Girona-bred producer has long been known for crafting a wide range of vibes, from slow-burning techno heaters to jumpy tech-house. Not only for Suara, but also esteemed imprints like Bedrock and Intec.

On Monday, we will be gifted the long-awaited release of Marc Dosem's third LP entitled City Cuts, an eleven-track offering that traces the roads from melodic, to club-crushing, and a few cuts that are supremely emotive. As the album's moniker would suggest, the producer tells us that "most of the tracks are inspired by very intense experiences I have had in recent years visiting the places where I performed." But the guy wouldn't let on too much about the album's underlying ethos—"My priority is for listeners to find an echo from their memory and I don't just intend to replicate the story that is really behind it." After full-length releases Parallel on SINO and Origin on Tronic, Dosem's latest LP is a milestone in itself, as in today's landscape of producers, having three album's under one's belt a feat that can be few and far between when veterans are finding themselves sharing bills with an array of rising stars who focus more on chart-hungry singles. "What I like to do when I produce albums is to compile songs with a much more open-minded concept than an EP that's focused mainly for the dancefloor. I can tell a story, as if a soundtrack is involved. I'm aware we live in an age where everything goes very fast and people are more focused on single tracks and this album can be heard with each song separately, but it also has a storyline to be heard as a whole," says Dosem.

After taking some time with City Cuts one can indeed sense the producer's yearning to take the listener on a joyride through their own minds. The album's kickoff "Runnerpark" starts you off in a sort of underwater dreamworld of elevating synth work with potent stabs that send shivers straight down your vertebrate. "Expression" takes aim at the dancefloor, with an effortlessly funky tech-house bassline and echoing vocal squeals. Productions like "Lost City" wrap you in a warm blanket of of audio before "Lost Dancer" takes things straight tribal. After a full-listen, there really is enough range to satisfy a diverse spread of desire: "All I want is for every person to enjoy it in their own way, it's an album to dance to but is also for listening. There's a big part of soul put into this project, it would be great if someone is able to see beyond the dancefloor elements and can open the door to what's behind the songs."
