House of Kenzo Shares Its Exhilarating, Live-Recorded "Deconstructed Attitudes" Mix

San Antonio vogue crew House of Kenzo shared an invigorating new mix today, "Deconstructed Attitudes," recorded live during their performance at local venue Hi-Tones on November 21. THUMP recently chronicled the boundary-pushing evening in our profile of HoK, but now you can relive the ballroom-inspired, experimental movement production through its DJ soundtrack, helmed by crewmembers LEDEF and TonePadron. Beginning with a sound art piece by Fade to Mind affiliate Rizzla, the mix goes on to incorporate dembow edits, ballroom beats, and jersey club in an exhilaratingly freewheeling indicative of the crew's fearless ethos.

While LEDEF and TonePadron played, roxy rnbwstrchld emcee'd over the mix—not captured on this recording—and Bobby Bearz danced. "We're kinda pursuing a role as official performers based in experimental movement," roxy told THUMP. "That element of hypemen—people who motivate and encourage the audience to immerse themselves in the music—the experimental techno dance scene needs that. We're filling that void."

The DJs told THUMP about their approach to the set via email. LEDEF said the mix "was meant to be extremely combative and aggressive, free-flowing through genres to capture an uncertainty and anger, but also danceable." Meanwhile, TonePadron said his intentions were "to conduct power within the space." "The tracks that I played had a special energy to them that made me feel powerful," he said.
