According to multiple reports, at least eight people were killed in a stampede at the Afro-Music Channel festival in Benguela, Angola last weekend. eNews Channel Africa reports a stampede began where doors to the festival were locked.

Nelson Sul, an Angolan journalist said panic began at the end of the concert because police were looking for criminals.

"There are more bodies in morgues in the city," Sul said.

The festival was sold out for the 8000 capacity stadium, though Sul also reportedly told AFP, "the number of tickets sold exceeded the capacity of the stadium." There have been no confirmations from authorities of Sul's claims about the number of tickets sold.

The festival brought together leading Angolan musicians.
