Continuing the activist work she's engaged over the course of her career, ANOHNI has announced that she'll take part in a protest in Australia later this week. The songwriter, who just released her near universally acclaimed and politically vibrant album HOPELESSNESS, said in an Instagram post this morningthat over eight days, she'll walk over 110 miles through a western Australia desert to demonstrate against the planned building of a uranium mine on what she calls the "traditional lands" of the Martu people, an aboriginal group that lives in the area.

She wrote that the mine, planned by Mitsubishi and Cameco and approved by the local government, is a "threat to [the Martu people's] well-being." The protest, which was organized by the Martu people, will begin on Friday and will include upwards of 100 people from the area.

ANOHNI spent 10 days living among Martu communities back in 2013 and has since been one of the group's more visible advocates in the Western world. She closed a recent live show in New York with a striking video clip of Nola Taylor, a Martu artist and activist who is helping to organize this protest. Check out ANOHNI's full Instagram post below.
