VIBE: A golden triangle of excellent techno

VENUE: Warehouses all over Sydney, with occasional concessions to legal parties at the former goth and fetish venue (and current bro-haven) Club 77

WHEN IT HAPPENS: When the stars align and everything clicks into place and stuff just works out… so like, once a month.

WHATS THE DEAL THO:

Things get started late at Motorik! So don't be prepared to get eased into your night, which will likely go until 7AM. Residents Vivi and Linda usually get things started, jump starting you into "dat party mood," as they put it.

At this point, I hope you've gone to the bathroom because the toilets are probably broken. Luckily, you don't care because you've been peer pressured into ditching your pathetic little cup for vodka straight out of the bottle. Hopefully you don't lose sight of your friends, because Motorik! never gets hosted in the same venue twice. In fact, it aims to be Sydney's "dirty little secret."

Thankfully, Australians are hot, especially because Motorik!'s residents love urging you to "shut the fuck up and party and rave and enjoy the music and hopefully find someone to get naked with—guy, girl, whatever." This message of total acceptance doesn't quite apply to the music, though. Motorik! prides themselves on sticking to their guns, only playing music "with substance"… whatever that means. The parties also only help to hype the releases on their own record label, which has been praised for its deft hand in Sydney's recent techno revival.

There's a reason Brodinski and Gesaffelstein chose Motorik! for their first Australian show. That reason might be that residents often describe the party as "a little crack den." Or maybe it's the girls with multi-colored hair sweating all over the Rick Owens-clad fashion crew, or the ravers jumping off speaker stacks, or the more elegantly dressed partiers sneaking off in the back to make out. Hard to say.

Thanks to a hush-hush attitude towards invitations, partyers don't have to worry about anyone harshing their vibes. Sticking to word-of-mouth keeps the "not-so-desirables" in the dark, so to speak. "We make a safe environment for amazing people to be excellent in, without fear of fuckwits and losers ruining their fun," the guys claim. Wonder what they think of the dude in the picture below.

UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT: Two local groups—the perma-trippy psychedelic band Jagwar Ma and techno trio CSMNT61—jamming live on a laptop while connected to an 808 and a box of guitar pedals… obviously tearing the place apart.
