Cut Copy Just Dropped 'January,' a Surprise Collection of Ambient Instrumentals

Australian dance-pop band Cut Copy dropped January, a cassette tape of ambient instrumental music. This marks the group's first release in more than three years. In 2013, the band released their fourth album Free Your Mind.

January is a 44-minute collection of unedited material recorded during 10 days spent in their studio. "Instead of retreating to the wilderness or decompressing on a beach somewhere, we spent ten days in the studio making a collection of ambient instrumental works," the group said.

On the page announcing the cassette tape, the group also revealed details about their upcoming full-length album. Band members Dan Whitford and Tim Hoey said they have spent the past year working on a new album. There is no word on when the new album will be released.
